Bad Salzdetfurth – a small town with all kinds of potential
The small town of Bad Salzdetfurth in southern Lower Saxony, with a population of 13,000, is both an industrial center and a health resort. It owes its name to a salt works located south of Detfurth and to the river, the Lamme, which flows in a northerly direction.

The project – Setting the stage for nature and urban history
On the one hand, the old town, which is characterized by half-timbered buildings, was to become an identity-forming center, and on the other hand, it was to radiate closeness to nature. The design by the landscape architecture firm POLA fulfilled these criteria best in the competition according to the professional jury. A restrained and uniform design language now places the historical buildings in the center. The homogeneously kept paving surface made of belgrano® natural stone creates a spacious square. The planners deliberately used only a few design elements – such as seating elements made of high-quality belgrano® granite – to create an open space for a multifunctional community area.

The Lamme – The access to the river is restored
Most recently, the Lamme was separated from downtown Bad Salzdetfurth by a bank wall. Today, it is once again freely accessible by a set of stairs – steps and seating levels made of belgrano® granite – the city is once again connected to the water by the Lamme Garden including its wetland biotope.

The finish – a new marketplace invites visitors to linger
After a two-year planning phase, construction was able to begin in 2019. Two years later, the project was already completed and ceremoniously opened on August 28, 2021. Thanks to the new setting, the trade and gastronomy located there benefit from numerous visitors, including many locals who have learned to appreciate the marketplace and the Lammegarten in a new way.
