Natural stone is one of the most sustainable building materials. As a naturally formed material, it is extracted directly from the earth and requires no artificial additives. Its inherent structure is naturally stable and remains durable over exceptionally long periods of time. Global diversity and intelligent supply chains
Every architectural project carries its own distinctive signature. To ensure that materials reinforce this individuality, we draw on the full diversity of natural stone deposits worldwide. This creates rich colour landscapes and surface textures with a unique character. Depending on the design intent, regional natural stone can be just as appropriate as materials from international sources or a carefully curated combination of different origins. From established European classics to global deposits for large scale developments and signature design features, we provide access to the full geological spectrum of natural stone.
At the same time, we maintain full transparency across the entire material journey. From the point of origin to the construction site, we evaluate which transport solution is most efficient and responsible. Marcel Zielke from our logistics department explains:

Low primary energy demand and reduced CO₂ emissions
As a natural material, stone does not require energy intensive manufacturing processes such as firing, smelting or chemical transformation. Energy consumption is essentially limited to extraction, processing and transport. Certified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), as well as studies by the German Natural Stone Association, consistently show that natural stone achieves significantly better results in terms of primary energy demand and global warming potential compared to many industrially produced materials such as concrete, ceramics or clinker.
Reusability across generations
Natural stone is one of the few building materials that can be reused after decades or even centuries of service without any loss of quality. Historic paving surfaces, stair constructions and façade elements demonstrate the exceptional durability of the material. While many artificial building products are downcycled into lower grade aggregates after demolition, belgrano® natural stone remains a fully valuable construction material with long term usability.
Minimised life cycle costs through durability
Natural stone achieves service lives spanning multiple generations and often outlasts the lifecycle of entire buildings. As a result, stone surfaces can be cleanly separated at the end of their life cycle and returned to the mineral material loop without the contamination issues often associated with synthetic building materials.

Natural stone can also contribute to improving the urban microclimate. Light coloured stones reflect more solar radiation than dark asphalt surfaces, helping to reduce heat build up in sealed urban environments. In addition, massive stone surfaces warm up more slowly, supporting more balanced temperature conditions in public space.
Creating sustainable living environments
Ethical and ecological standards are essential for the use of natural stone in landscape architecture and for the delivery of construction projects. Municipalities and planners alike increasingly require fair traded materials for the design of public outdoor spaces. For many years, our company has been a partner of WiN=WiN FairStone. This certification provides assurance that international core labour standards are observed, that worker safety is guaranteed and that production can be fully traced back to the manufacturing facility (traceability).
At BESCO, we actively advocate in public discourse for Fair Trade principles to become mandatory for all natural stone imports. We regard cooperation with non profit organisations such as these as one of the most effective ways to structure our supply chain in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. In addition, we support certified climate protection projects in accordance with internationally recognised standards.
Our in house quality management on site
Your trust is our most valuable asset. For many years, we have employed our own trained and permanently engaged inspection teams in Germany, across Europe and in Asia. Our inspectors monitor agreed quality standards and tolerances directly on site and ensure compliance with working conditions in line with the International Labour Organization (ILO). In addition, the technical properties of our products are regularly verified by accredited and independent testing institutes in Germany.
