BESCO’s Project of Superlatives – the School Campus in Unterföhring

Up to now, the largest and most expensive school construction in the district of Munich is also the largest project for the Berliner Steincontor so far. The project, which started in 2017, could already be completed in 2021. Thanks to the successful interaction of all planning and construction partners involved, there now exists this additional educational facility in the district of Unterföhring since school started in September 2020/2021.

An architecturally outstanding complex for the education of up to 1,500 students

A total of 50,000 square meters is home to a high school with a gymnasium and a pool, an elementary school with an after-school care center and a lunchtime care center. A cafeteria and an underground parking garage complement the complex which is located on a barrier-free site – both used by both schools. The meandering architecture of the new building offers a wide range of play, learning and recreational facilities for up to 1,500 students.

Natural stone graces the “boulevard of opportunities”

Floor slabs, pavers and seating elements made of climate-neutral belgrano® natural stone were used by Rainer Schmidt landscape architects to open up a “boulevard of possibilities” surrounded by beautiful greenery. Depending on the age group, children can pursue play and sports activities here or retreat to areas with a quieter character. Installed dancing lamps make the little ones’ hearts beat faster, especially in the evening hours. Underground infiltration trenches provide drainage for the areas.

An investment in children and teenagers

With a cost of around 149 million euros, investments were made in the education of children and young people – money well spent, agreed by District Administrator Christoph Göbel and Unterföhring Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer.
