redesign of Juliusruh on Rügen

Numerous German cities and municipalities have commissioned extensive modernizations in recent years in order to give the external appearance of their paths and squares new facets. Tourism regions such as the Baltic Sea coasts and islands feel responsible, because there the visual persuasiveness plays a particularly important role due to economic factors. Planners who are entrusted with relevant projects are increasingly relying on natural stone for the material. Because this building material harmonizes perfectly with the landscape characterized by forests, rocks and sandy beaches.

Harmony through natural stone

The redesign of the beach promenade was commissioned in Juliusruh, a district of the Breege community on the north coast of Rügen. According to the designs of Thomas Niessen from the office for landscape and open space architecture, the promenade was extended by 1.2 kilometers, the pier forecourt and its quiet areas were renewed and the fishing path was expanded. belgrano® granite runs like a red thread through the area. A large part of the pavement as well as numerous seating and design elements are made of the robust and diverse material. A total of 616 tons of high-quality natural stone were delivered.

elaborate craftsmanship – urban design elements made of natural stone

One of the biggest eye-catchers is a fountain five meters in diameter made of red belgrano® granite, the surface of which has been polished to create a shiny effect. The curved elements were created in a complex craftsmanship. The same applies to the radial walls of the pier forecourt, which forms the transition from the town center to the promenade. The 1.65 meter high and 50 centimeter wide wall blocks extend over an outer radius of 5.96 meters. Inside the circle there are also radially shaped benches, so that the square becomes a lively fixed point when the weather is nice. The special coloring of the rock fits perfectly into the beach scenery and thus ensures a harmonious overall picture. With matching pillars to the left and right of the sidewalk, this style continues as far as the Baltic coast.

In the center of Juliusruh, paved surfaces and circles made of belgrano® granite pave the way for people. Paving stones with a side length of five to 9.5 centimeters were used. In many places, pillars, benches and waste paper baskets add visual highlights. A stele made of natural stone, which rises almost six meters in height and measures sixty centimeters in diameter, attracts a lot of attention. It is clearly recognizable from a distance and shows visitors the way to the beach. Due to the split, notched surface, the stele visually stands out clearly from the other elements.
