Water brightens up everyday life – the Speyerbach creek, which can only be seen on maps, has been brought back to life.

True to the motto “Water in the city”, an oasis-like pedestrian zone has been created in Neustadt’s centre. In addition to seating elements made of belgrano® natural stone, multi-coloured granite stone adorns the floor surfaces and rounds off the cityscape. The highlight of the narrow alleys are now water elements in the midst of the shopping opportunities that are provided here.

Many actors – one idea.

The idea of the “Water in the City” project has its origins back in 2014. Since then, citizens’ initiatives, the city administration and many stakeholders have worked together to revitalise the city centre of Neustadt.

Water as a design element became the central idea: they wanted to reconstruct watercourses and thus the course of the old Speyerbach creek. Canalising and channeling the water under the city, as had been done since 1971, no longer seemed appropriate – instead, the water was to be used to enhance the appearance of the centre of Neustadt.

Since its completion, the new town centre invites citizens and visitors to linger and enjoy its reawakened charm.
