new shine for the old town with the help of natural stone

In addition to economic factors, the external appearance is one of the most important driving forces of a city.

An appealing look is often the decisive factor as to whether the residents feel comfortable and whether tourists are attracted.

These aspects also played a role in Mellrichstadt, Lower Franconia, when the redesign of the center was decided.

After four years of intensive planning and extensive construction work, the old town now shines in new splendor thanks to a new paving, several fountains and numerous furnishings.

When it comes to materials, belgrano® granite, gneiss and gabbro were used.

In total, BESCO supplied around 10,000 m² of paving slabs as well as various wells, basins, gutters, curbs and furnishings in many different colors and processing forms.

The design of the planners intended to develop a hierarchy in the center of Mellrichstadt, which particularly emphasizes the main street as a lifeline compared to the secondary axes and peripheral areas. This should make orientation easier and at the same time better network the old town center.

This effect was achieved by laying the belgrano® paving in a wild association. The 16 cm thick rectangular and square panels were laid in an irregular, varied pattern that loosened up the sometimes large areas in the center of Mellrichstadt.

upgrading urban design: attractive pavement and stylish fountains

This effect was reinforced with three different colors and ten individual formats, as there were a total of 30 different stones.

Before being shipped from China, the visible edges were painstakingly handcrafted with a special mallet to create a rustic edge.

In the Middle Ages, wells played an important role in Mellrichstadt in order to supply the residents with water. At the same time, the squares were also popular meeting places.

The planners strengthened this historical identity with several fountains and benches in order to fill these places with life again after the renovation.

The whole diversity of belgrano® natural stones was shown here. For example, a lens-shaped fountain in black-gray color and a highly polished surface was created on the Linsenbrunnenplatz.
