NATURAL STONE COMBINES ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE

Germany’s most modern courthouse opened

The new building of the district court of Haßfurt and the surrounding grounds was completed in July 2018 after three years of construction and the building was handed over by the Bavarian Minister of Justice. The free-standing cube became the new landmark of the entrance to the historic old town.

In an exposed location at the eastern entrance to the old town of Hassfurt, the court complex presents itself as an organizing element in the historical context of the surrounding buildings. The new building designed by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos has been built in a passive construction and meets the desire for high architectural quality and sustainability.

The Berlin Stone Contor has been working as a project partner in the field of natural stone and has supplied its high-quality belgrano® natural stone for both the interior and for the outdoor facilities designed by Frank Kiessling landscape architects. The ground floor houses 3 free-standing courtrooms and is equipped with large-sized Basanit flooring, which not only impress visually, but also energetically.

In total, about 1500 square meters of the belgrano® Basanite were used for the floor design, distributed over 3 floors and the stairwell. The transitions to the surrounding outside area of the building run smoothly. The main entrance of the district court is the barrier-free, newly created forecourt. To emphasize the radiance of the sandstone facade, gray belgrano® diorite was used for the space design and the furniture.

The landscape architecture firm Frank Kiessling chose the homogeneous diorite of the Berlin stone office from a variety of material samples to design the outdoor facilities, the connecting outside staircase and parts of the employee car park. Also to be emphasized here are the rectangular, monumental seating elements, which seem to float and are of high quality. All the natural stones used were manufactured on a project basis and delivered to the construction site on schedule. The result is impressive, the new district court in Haßfurt is an example of high architectural quality and the advantages of natural stone.
