BESCO initiates generational change
Under the belgrano® brand, the Berlin-based company, which is specialized in the project business with natural stone for public construction projects, sells stone for the design of squares, pedestrian zones, parks, facades and interior floors. In February 2024, the company underwent a generational change. After many successful years as an authorized representative and sales manager, Florian Geyer was appointed by the managing partners Frank Dickmann and Ulrich Klösser as a further managing director of BESCO. “I am very pleased that in Florian Geyer we have found a managing director, who will dedicate himself to the operational implementation of our corporate goals in the future,” said Ulrich Klösser. “Florian Geyer is characterized by high motivation, diligence and great commitment to our customers and employees. He will thus initiate further healthy growth at BESCO.“
From trainee to Managing Director
Florian Geyer began his career at BESCO more than twenty years ago as an trainee in wholesale and foreign trade. After various stages in field service, sales, sales and project management and as an authorized signatory, he is now at the head of the Berlin-based company. In his new role as Managing Director, the natural stone expert wants to continue the steady growth of recent years and further increase the company’s market presence. “My goals as Managing Director are the constant further development of our belgrano® brand in the first place and, of course, a stable continuation of what we have all built up together over the past twenty years, namely a successful family business with extremely capable employees,” says Geyer. His many years of experience in the company will also help him to achieve his goals in the future.
Generational diversity as a factor for success
“Florian Geyer has made a significant contribution to the company’s success since it was founded. His extensive knowledge of the industry and his commitment to the company make him the ideal candidate for the position of Managing Director to ensure that we can continue to operate successfully on the market in the future,” says Frank Dickmann. The continuity in the top management ensures a seamless transition phase and gives the company the opportunity to benefit from the experience of different generations.
When you look back on the last 20 years at BESCO, what were your personal highlights?
My first big highlight was being taken on after my training in wholesale and foreign trade. That was not a matter of course back then, as it is today. Then the first big, hard-won delivery order, and later the first major project for me as a sales consultant. By then I knew that I really enjoyed working with natural stone and the many different partners in the construction industry.
What is your favorite project that you have supervised during your time at BESCO and why?
The first project that comes to my mind is Berlin’s Tauentzien. In other words, the redesign of the green spaces in front of KaDeWe between Wittenbergplatz and the Gedächtniskirche. Each granite element is unique, each planting bed was individually designed. Fifteen years ago and still a special challenge today.
What fascinates you most about natural stone?
I am fascinated by the uniqueness and the individual design options. I’m fascinated by the fact that a natural stone makes all the difference when you look at the change in the quality of the space when redesigning areas. Everyone perceives it subconsciously. Compared to artificially manufactured building materials, the value of natural stone is significantly higher and can also be felt by the layman. I am absolutely convinced of this.
Where do you see the future of natural stone?
Natural stone has been used and reused for centuries. This will not change in the future. Especially in the context of sustainability, natural stone is proving to be a forward-looking choice. The positive environmental effects, both in terms of its natural availability and its reusability, make natural stone a resource-saving building material.
You have achieved an impressive career at BESCO, what advice would you give to job starters who want to follow a similar path?
“Do what you love and you’ll never have to work again” is the mantra I would recommend to any job starter or job seeker. You don’t have to adore your work, but you do have to identify to some extent with what you do.
What are you looking forward to in your new role as Managing Director?
Until now, I have been very focused on the sales process and the success of the company purely from a sales perspective. In my new role, I am looking forward to incorporating all the perspectives that the company offers into my management.
Last but not least: What do you do when you can’t be found at work?
Anyone who knows me, knows, that I am a family man and also a sports enthusiast. That’s why in my free time you’re most likely to find me on the running track or at the pull-up bar with at least one child in my arms.
