The Britzer Garten in Berlin-Neukölln was originally created for the Federal Garden Exhibition 1985 and is now a vast green landscape park in the south of Berlin. Spanning 90 hectares, it combines nature, relaxation, and a variety of leisure experiences. Hills, idyllic lakes, meadows, flower groves, and themed gardens shape the landscape and make the Britzer Garten a popular destination.
To ensure that Britzer Garten remains attractive and future-proof, the development concept “Britzer Garten 2030” was launched. The goal is to gradually develop individual areas of the park in collaboration with visitors. The focus of the measures is on modern and sustainable design, while preserving the identity of the garden. An example of the implementation of this concept is the construction of a natural stone water feature, for which BESCO supplied high-quality belgrano® granite.
On the eastern side of the garden, there is a water playground offering various opportunities for play, climbing, and exploration. Its rock-like design serves as a diverse play element. As part of the development concept, a 14.5-meter-wide, barrier-free water labyrinth with an interactive fountain field was created. This allows older children and children with disabilities to use an area that was previously designed primarily for toddlers. Especially on warm days, the flowing water provides a refreshing cool-down and enhances the overall visitor experience.
For the design of the facility, high-quality natural stone slabs, paving, and custom-made special elements were used. The Berlin planners of the Dr. Szamatolski Schrickel Planning Company opted for belgrano® granite from the Berlin-based company BESCO. The hard stone is known for its durability and weather resistance, making it the perfect material for permanent outdoor use.
The natural stone water feature consists of five circles, aligned at the center, each equipped with ground nozzles from which water flows. Through various pressure buttons, visitors can actively unlock water paths through the maze, making the experience interactive. The fountains have varying heights, reaching up to 1.5 meters in the center of the maze. Das Wasser wird in einem geschlossenen Kreislaufsystem aufbereitet und umweltfreundlich wiederverwendet.
New seating benches have been installed around the water playground to make visitors’ stay even more enjoyable. Right next to the water labyrinth, the newly renovated Café Milchbar invites guests to relax and offers a culinary stop. The pyramid-shaped building, originally constructed as a temporary structure for the 1985 Federal Garden Show, has been extensively renovated to ensure its long-term preservation.
The use of belgrano® granite in Britzer Garten not only demonstrates an appreciation for durable and sustainable materials but also the desire to harmoniously blend nature with modern architecture. The robust natural stone is weather-resistant and seamlessly integrates into the garden landscape. With its inclusion in the natural stone water feature, belgrano® granite contributes to the sustainable development of the park, ensuring that Britzer Garten remains a relaxing place for future generations.
