a new city quarter is emerging

A new residential and business district as well as a new tram stop was built in Munich between Leopoldstrasse and Berliner Strasse to the east. The centrally located area covers a total of 4.2 hectares and consists of 9 buildings, including a 14-storey hotel.

ver.de Landschaftsarchitekten Stadtplaner is responsible for the designs for the 35,000 m² outdoor facilities and tries to revive the former myth of the legendary artists’ quarter.

By using natural stone and high quality street furniture, the design of the square underlines the overall architectural impression of the building.

BESCO supplied over 20,000 m² of belgrano® natural stones in the form of floor slabs, paving, boards and tactile guidance systems for the blind.

project report

What was the biggest challenge in the project?

The biggest challenge in the project was the overlapping of so many disciplines and – in this case – hundreds of project participants, in a very confined space already during the planning on site in the project office. But also later, on the construction site.

In some cases, there was a struggle for square meters of construction space, a great deal of coordination and discussion, and ultimately a wonderful and calm result that no longer allows any conclusions to be drawn about all the difficulties and challenges involved in the coordination, planning and implementation of the open spaces.

Due to the complex construction processes, a solution had to be found in order to deliver the required quantities of the correct formats to the construction site at short notice.

For this purpose, external areas were rented on which the entire stone material was delivered step by step and was available there for short-term retrieval.

Architects and planners need special solutions for special projects. BESCO specializes in the processing of natural stones and also implements technically complex tasks in this area. This always leads to extraordinary results, as various projects show by way of example.

The cooperation with BESCO, in our case Mr. Reckling, went mostly smoothly. We were given a lot of help with the implementation of difficult construction methods that sometimes deviate from standards. Ultimately, there was always a great interest in implementing the project in the interests of our client and our ideas - which also succeeded in (almost) all areas.
