Tradition meets modernity: Revitalization of the Austrian Posthotel Taube into a 4-star hotel

reading time - 5 min

After almost three years of extensive renovation and expansion work, the historic Posthotel Taube in Schruns, Austria, reopened its doors as a 4-star hotel on December 1, 2023. The comprehensive renovation measures were led by the Vorarlberg architecture firm bernardo bader architekten, while Rhomberg Bau took over the construction management as the general contractor. BESCO supplied around 400 tons of European granite for the design of the outdoor areas. With its reopening, the Posthotel Taube is now one of the top addresses in the region.

Posthotel Taube: A meeting place for locals and a destination for visitors alike

The Posthotel Taube has a long history and has been welcoming guests from around the world since 1840. Located directly on the marketplace in the heart of Schruns, the main town of the Montafon Valley in Vorarlberg, the hotel is a longstanding institution and a place of tradition. The recent revitalization marks another milestone in the hotel’s extensive history. The renovation work had a clear goal: to preserve the original character while revitalizing the property to meet the needs of both the local community and international guests. As a result, the hotel is not only a place of relaxation for vacationers but also a central gathering spot in the local life of Schruns, where locals enjoy spending time.

The new Posthotel Taube in the splendor of its history

Between 2021 and 2023, the historic hotel underwent extensive renovation. The eastern part was demolished and expanded, while the main facade was partially preserved, and the non-preserved sections were revitalized to maintain the original style of the building. The current hotel complex consists of four largely underground-connected buildings with a total of 48 rooms and suites, a reception area, and various dining facilities. In the newly built Alpgues House, guests will find a spa, while the renovated hunting lodge from 1453 offers an ideal setting for social gatherings. The opposite Nescherina House is perfect for workshops, meetings, and conferences.

Posthotel Taube, Schruns mit belgrano®

The revitalized Posthotel Taube reopened as a 4-star hotel on December 1, 2023.

belgrano® granite as a unifying element

The various areas of the hotel are connected above ground by approximately 1,650 m² of small stone paving laid in a segmental arch pattern. Additionally, 100 m² of granite paving in a linear pattern surrounds the hotel, the hunting lodge, and the Alpgues House. For the terraces of the hotel and hunting lodge, belgrano® natural stone slabs were laid in strips, drawing attention to the traditional Alpine architectural style.

The European belgrano® granite used, supplied by BESCO Berliner Steincontor GmbH, integrates harmoniously into the natural design of the revitalized hotel. Natural stone possesses a timeless beauty and is a long-term investment that appears both classic and modern. As one of the most sustainable building materials, natural stone is characterized by high resistance to weather and de-icing salts, making it ideal for use in Schruns. The stone withstands even cold, icy, and snowy winters, which is why belgrano® granite was chosen.

The revitalized Posthotel Taube blends tradition and modernity

Since December 1, 2023, the historic Posthotel Taube has been shining in new splendor as a 4-star hotel after nearly three years of extensive renovation work. The renovation honors the impressive historical heritage of the building. The belgrano® natural stone blends harmoniously with the surroundings and complements the natural materials of the landscape. This successful combination gives the Posthotel Taube its unique charm, making it a place that combines excellent architecture with top-notch service.
