Old market in Landstuhl newly staged with natural stone

Redesigns of public spaces often aim to strengthen the functionality of an area without, however, changing the original character too much. This narrow balancing act should also be realized in Landstuhl in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The concept of the werk-plan office from Kaiserslautern envisaged keeping the original layout of the square with a large green area and the old fountain as the center, while at the same time ensuring an optical upgrade and a strengthening of the social function. The planners mastered this with targeted measures.

The western part of the green area was fortified and provided with a wooden deck to later provide space for events and to serve as a meeting place for the local population.

In addition, the no longer functional well was renovated and additional water installations were added. Seating and design elements complete the overall picture. The preserved lawn area was given a wavy pattern to liven up the area.

historical square rediscovered as a meeting point

As a common thread, belgrano® natural stone runs through the entire design concept. The city and the planning office opted for fine material from China. It can be found in the square, the adjacent streets and sidewalks, as well as curbs, channels and some design elements.

A total of around 1,500 tons of belgrano® in different colors and surface finishes were used. The varied yellow tones exude a warm intensity, especially in the bush-hammered stones and slabs of the square.

The redesign of the old market has led to a significant revitalization in the Landstuhl center. Thanks to the open and friendly design, the area has developed into a popular meeting place for the population.

The fountains in the fountain are particularly attractive – children in particular like to use the installation in summer for a refreshing dip.
