The natural stone supplier BESCO (Berliner Steincontor GmbH) voluntarily realizes climate-neutral transports for its customers, from the production facilities in Europe and overseas to Germany. The emissions are offset through “Gold Standard” projects in favor of global environmental and climate protection.
BESCO has now handed over a certificate for climate-neutral transport to the city of Karlsruhe in connection with the redesign of the market square. Many sustainable and fair belgrano® natural stones were used.
The market square of Karlsruhe shines in new splendor – thanks in part to the bright belgrano® natural stones made of high-quality granite from the Berlin natural stone supplier BESCO, which were built around the city-famous pyramid and the newly created fountain field.
BESCO has been a pioneer in the field of sustainable, fair and ecological procurement of natural stone for years and has been supporting WiN = WiN Fair Stone since 2009. “All of our Asian products are guaranteed to be free from child labor and have been manufactured in compliance with the working conditions as defined by the International Labor Organization (ILO) ”, announced the company. For two years now, BESCO has voluntarily offset all CO₂ emissions associated with the transport of belgrano® natural stones with so-called “Gold Standard” projects that serve environmental and climate protection worldwide. The Gold Standard is the strictest seal of approval for climate protection.
The natural stones of the Karlsruhe market square are therefore also CO₂-neutral. After completion of the work, BESCO presented certificates to the city of Karlsruhe and the construction company responsible for the implementation of the construction project. These confirm the climate-neutral transport of the built-in belgrano® natural stones.
When implementing natural stone projects in public spaces, BESCO works closely with cities, municipalities and their specialist planners, emphasized managing director Frank Dickmann. Behind the projects of the Berlin company there is always “an individual concept that combines the full diversity of natural stone with the local conditions” – regardless of whether it is the modernization of a pedestrian zone or a city and market square like in Karlsruhe. “Elementary standards such as fair and controlled production, sustainability and climate protection are demonstrably taken into account,” emphasized Dickmann. In this way, BESCO enables municipalities, among other things, to anchor active climate protection in their tenders. Natural stone is therefore the best choice – especially compared to cement-bound building materials (according to Wikipedia, cement is the No. 1 climate killer).

At BESCO, we actively support the requirement of fair trade and CO₂ offsets for all natural stone imports in the public discourse. This is the only way to achieve a change towards a climate-neutral construction industry.
