Location
Zippererweg, 93437 Furth im Wald
In summer 2025, Furth im Wald will be the venue for the Bavarian State Garden Show. From May 22 to October 5, the town will host a diverse garden festival. The project planned by Planorama was supplied with belgrano® granite by BESCO.
The central design theme is water: the Kalte Pastritz and Chamb rivers run through the site and are restaged as defining urban elements. As part of the urban redevelopment, the rivers were ecologically upgraded and renaturalized in sections to make it easier to experience their design and spatial quality.
Shallow bank zones, new pathways and targeted architectural interventions allow direct access to the water. Pastritzinsel and Chambinsel offer natural recreational areas that strengthen the connection between the city and the landscape. A continuous green corridor complements the concept and combines ecological and design functions in order to further develop the potential of the site in the long term.
The State Garden Show takes up a central feature of the city’s identity: the dragon as the symbolic figure of the traditional further dragon stitch. This cultural symbol runs through the exhibition concept as a design element – from dragon-shaped flowerbeds and color-accented paths to the graphic design. Under the motto “Experience legendary things ”, a combination of regional narrative tradition and contemporary open space design is created.
With the State Garden Show 2025, Furth im Wald is setting a clear example for sustainable open space design. In addition to drought-tolerant perennials and climate-resilient urban trees, the choice of durable materials plays a central role. BESCO supplied a paved area of around 4,000 m² as well as kerbstones, block steps, cover slabs, wall elements and 25 seating blocks – all made of yellowish-grey belgrano® granite.
Natural stone is a particularly sustainable material for public spaces: as a natural raw material, it can be fully recycled and is highly resistant to wear and weathering. This avoids frequent replacements, which saves resources and energy in the long term. The natural look blends harmoniously into the surroundings and enables timeless, flexible design, making natural stone a real asset for urban development in terms of both ecology and design.
The State Garden Show in Furth im Wald shows how temporary large-scale events can provide sustainable impetus for urban development, quality of life and open space design. The focus is on ecological qualities, biodiversity, tourism enhancement and new urban infrastructure.
The city took the opportunity to redesign central open spaces and implement urban development projects. At the same time, there was a palpable spirit of optimism: around 200 volunteers got involved and many residents beautified their houses and gardens. The garden show thus has an impact far beyond the event site – as an impetus for civic engagement, the preservation of the townscape and regional identity. Advance sales of season tickets have reached record levels, underlining the high level of public response.
